Waterside Crib League Rules
2024/2025 season
- All matches should be played on a Tuesday evening starting 8pm. All home teams are to be seated prior to 8pm.
- Singles, pairs, mixed pairs and team KO competitions are to begin at 8pm, unless otherwise stated in the event of a finals night, which a start time will be given on the website. Earlier start times will be posted on the competitions tab of the website for finals evening to accommodate for time constraints thereof.
- Any delayed start of a league match must be agreed to by both captains prior to commencement, and as such cannot be re-negotiated once agreed upon. Any disputes regarding a delayed start time must be brought to the league chairman verbally and in writing for committee review at the next meeting.
- Latest start time for a table is 8.30pm. If a player is unavailable, singles tables will be sacrificed first with a 5-0 aggregate,1 table forfeit.
- A minimum of 6 players is required for a match to be played.
- Singles tables will be sacrificed first if a team has insufficient players for any reason.
- If there is a shortage of players on both teams, and the game is a tie due to player shortage on both teams, then both teams will receive 1 point each in the event of a draw of tables.
- If the match is a walkover, or the opposing team does not fulfil the fixture without notice, the result will be 3 tables to 2 and an aggregate of 15-10 and will be classified as a walkover.
- Match winners will receive 2 points for a win.
- League position will be decided on points first, followed by leg aggregate and if necessary, table count back and then head-to-head results should it be deemed necessary to ascertain a dominant team to determine league position.
- All league games will consist of all 5 legs played, and competitions will be best of 5 legs.
- All singles games will be 6 card crib, and doubles will be 5 card crib.
- All home teams are responsible of retaining at least 6 packs of playing cards that are solely for the use of league and competition matches. This is to prevent cards from being tampered with, being damaged or be used by non-league players. All cards should be checked by the player (or players should they wish) to ensure all 52 cards are in the pack.
- Players are to cut for box to determine who starts each leg, lowest card wins the first box at the start of each leg. In a doubles game, the non-pegging pair will cut for box in leg 1, and subsequent cuts will alternate for the start of the games.
- The cards are to be cut before each hand is shuffled and dealt, either by an opponent (in the event of singles), or the player sat to the immediate right of the dealer.
- If a Jack is cut at any time then 2 points are awarded to the player/pair that was the dealer at that time.
- No player may play for more than 1 team in the same season without the agreement by the committee. Any transfer (or requested transfer) of a player from one team to another must be done in writing and discussed by the committee at the next available meeting.
- The winning team's captain/secretary is responsible for posting, sending or texting a picture of the result card(s). Result cards must be submitted by no later than the Saturday subsequent of the league match. Please note that only official signed result cards 'should' be used, however a piece of paper may be used, but it must show clear table and leg aggregate scores, is legible, team names are clearly displayed, and a signature from both captains has been acquired.
- Any dispute of a result posted on the website regarding temporary cards as per rule 18 must be brought immediately to the attention of the league chairman and discussed at the next meeting. Once the correct resut has been ascertained by both captains of each team, the website result and league table will be amended to reflect it.
- Points may be forfeited if a team does not provide a copy (hard or digital) of the result card on the Saturday subsequent to the match played to the league secretary. It is at the discretion of the committee should this rule be abused or ignored, and points may be deducted/not awarded for late reporting/publishing of the result card(s).
- The home team is to supply the result cards. Any teams requiring more can request these through the committee where they can be supplied immediately.
- Home teams are responsible to negotiate with their respective pub/club to provide food in whatever capacity they see fit to cater for all playing during a league match. The cost thereof is also the home team's responsibility, and visiting teams should not be asked to contribute. Cup matches are discretional and do not conform to the same ruling.
- Disputes of any kind are to be notified to the league secretary in writing within 7 days after the match, and any dispute will be discussed at the next AGM.
- Teams wishing to postpone a match must notify the opposing team and the league secretary by the Saturday before the match they are due to play on the following Tuesday. Failure of this notification will result in that team forfeiting the match and the non-postponing team will be awarded the win, conforming to Rule 8 listed above.
- Any rearranged games must be completed before the last league game of the season. This may mean arranging a league match on a day other than Tuesday. This must also be agreed with the non-postponing team that they can fulfil a fixture on a day other than Tuesday.
- All competitions for all tournaments will be drawn out by the committee under controlled and random conditions and in the presence of more than 2 committee members.
- Singles competitions – No substitutions will be allowed once the first round has been drawn. Only named entries who have paid the entrance fee will be eligible to play. Fees for singles competition entry are £1.
- Doubles competitions – One person of the pair may be substituted at the first round only. No substitutions are permitted in any subsequent rounds. Once a substitution has been made, that player cannot be substituted for another player, nor can the originally declared/entered player of that pair re-take their place in that tournament. Fees for all pairs and mixed pairs tournaments are £2 per pair.
- In relation to singles, pairs and mixed pairs tournaments, no swapping of players from the nominated venue (as per the competitions tab on the website) will be permitted, unless this has been agreed by the committee in advance. Once the tournaments reach the final 8 participants, all matches will be played at the Glen, unless there has been a change of venue pre-advised by the committee should the Glen be unavailable for use on that date.
- Any player arriving after 8pm for any KO competition lies entirely at the discretion of the match official of the venue and all other players have agreed to start the draw. Once a decision has been made by the match official, the player(s) will be disqualified from the competition and will not be permitted to enter, and their entry fee for that specific tournament will not be refunded.
- Any team or individual responsible for damaging or losing trophies will be wholly responsible for the cost for their repair or replacement. Any person or persons who are in custody of a winners trophy must keep it safe either at their home venue or at their own home, with limited risk of damage.
- Any change of team secretary must be notified to the league secretary, and they must provide their name, address and telephone number and/or email address for league correspondence.
- All correspondence for all result cards, disputes and all other business should be directed through the league secretary or chairman.
